# ChatGPT

Add Currents to ChatGPT as a developer-mode app connected to the Currents MCP server

ChatGPT connects to Currents as an app built from the Currents MCP server at `https://mcp.currents.dev/mcp`. You create the app once in developer mode, sign in to Currents, and then choose it in any conversation.

Developer mode is available on the web for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts. On a Business, Enterprise or Education workspace, an admin may need to allow it first.

## Turn on developer mode

In [ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com), open **Settings → Security and login** and turn on **Developer mode**.

## Create the Currents app

1. Go to [ChatGPT Plugins](https://chatgpt.com/plugins) and select the plus button.
2. Fill in the app details:
   * **Name**: `Currents`
   * **Description**: `Test results, flaky tests and CI failures from Currents`
   * **MCP server URL**: `https://mcp.currents.dev/mcp`
   * **Authentication**: OAuth
3. Leave the client ID and secret empty. ChatGPT identifies itself to Currents on its own. If ChatGPT asks how to register, choose the Client ID Metadata Document option.
4. Create the app. It is listed under **Drafts** in your app settings.

## Sign in

When ChatGPT first connects, a Currents sign-in page opens. Sign in, choose the organization ChatGPT will work in, and approve the permissions it asks for. See [Sign in once](/ai/connect.md#sign-in-once) for what each screen shows. ChatGPT renews the connection on its own after that.

## Use it in a conversation

Open the **+** menu in the composer, choose **Developer mode**, and select **Currents**. Then ask about your projects:

> What broke in the last failed run of `<project>` on main? Open a Jira issue for it.

If ChatGPT answers without calling Currents, name the app in your prompt: "Use the Currents app to …".

ChatGPT runs tools marked read-only without asking, and asks you to confirm every other tool call. Check the input before you confirm a write, especially `currents-delete-run`, which permanently deletes a run. You can have ChatGPT remember your choice for a tool, but only for the rest of that conversation.

## Manage the app

The app's details page in your app settings lets you turn individual Currents tools on or off, and refresh the app to pick up tools Currents has added since you created it.

To revoke ChatGPT's access from the Currents side, see [Revoke a connection](/ai/connect.md#revoke-a-connection).

| No plus button to create an app | Turn on **Developer mode** first, or ask your workspace admin to allow it. |
| ChatGPT does not use Currents | Select **Currents** under **+ → Developer mode**, and name the app in your prompt. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.currents.dev/ai/connect/chatgpt.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
